Album Review: P-Square - The Invasion

Album:
The Invasion
Artist:
P-Square
Label:
Square Records
Release Year
2011

History with Artist:
In 2006 I was in the UK and one Friday evening we were all gathered playing Pro Evolution soccer and listening to loud music. My mate’s girl at the time screamed for me from the room next door and was excited to show me YouTube videos of some Nigerian twins she had come across.  Being a former dancer myself I was impressed and checked out their name: P Square. Fast forward to 2011 and they are probably African urban music’s best exports and ain’t we all just proud of them?

Interesting album cover, the space military style suits are certainly a nod to the great late MJ whose dance moves inspired them in their youth. Been hearing about this album for a while so, sit back, relax and let Africa’s fav twins Invade your brain space for the next hour.

Album Review: Banky W - The W Experience

Album:
The W Experience
Artist:
Banky W
Label:
EME
Release Year
2009

I happened upon this gentleman totally by accident a few years ago. A chance encounter with “Omoge You Too Much” meant I had to get the whole album. Truth is, I have been a fan ever since.

The album cover is great, a black and white photo of a well groomed gentleman, splashed with a hue of purple. Nice and clean.  With the CD already spinning, lets plunge into The W Experience.

Album Review: Wizkid - Superstar

Album:
Superstar
Artist:
Wizkid
Label:
EME
Release Year
2011

I was on work leave 2 years ago and trawling through Nigerian forums when I came across Banky W’s “Omoge You Too Much”, I pressed play and wow! I had that song on nonstop replay for days and still bump it once in a while. When Wizkid popped in on the third verse, I did a double take and wondered if Sean Kingston was now collaborating with African artists, then I looked again and saw the song featured Wizkid! That name stuck in my head and I have been waiting for his album ever since and finally got served this year!

Rewind 15 years and I would have loved that album cover, however, this is 2011 and it looks like a candy wrap. The wise ones say do not judge a book by its cover so let’s see what makes Wizkid a SUPERSTAR.

African music reviewed by an African for Africans.

I had heard about Wizkid’s new album and was wondering whether to get it or not. So I set about on the internet looking for a review of that album. Imagine my surprise at not finding anything at all interesting! I thought there will surely be thousands of people out there in the same position as me.
So I set myself out on a mission to review every Hip-Hop and R&B album by African artists. Enjoy and I hope this helps you on your musical escapades.
